I remember, as a child, exploring my Grandfathers cellar and finding troves of antiquated tools and belongings. I was completely captivated, at first, by their aesthetic qualities: Handles of tools worn to a blackened finish, faded chipped paint of the lettering on wooden boxes, and oxidizing metal.
Later in life it was the processes behind these aesthetics that would interest me. My Great Grandfathers blacksmithing tools were of particularly large impact. The Idea of these rusted relics laying in a dirty box under my Grandfathers workbench perplexed me. Saved but stored away without ever the intension of future use other than to be passed on to the next generation. It has led to an ongoing investigation of the relationship between material objects and the human condition by which they're valued.
